Responsible Gambling

Gambling should be entertainment, not a way to make money. If it stops being fun, it is time to stop. This page lists the main UK support organisations and explains how the tools available actually work.

Self-Exclusion with GamStop

GamStop is the UK's national self-exclusion scheme for online gambling. You register once at gamstop.co.uk and choose a minimum period: six months, one year, or five years. All UKGC-licensed operators must participate, so once you register your access is blocked across the board. During the exclusion period, operators are also required to stop sending you marketing.

Support and Counselling

GamCare — Free, confidential advice and support for anyone affected by gambling. Call 0808 8020 133 (24 hours) or visit gamcare.org.uk for live chat and forums.

GambleAware — Information, advice and treatment referrals at gambleaware.org. Also funds the National Gambling Helpline operated by GamCare.

UK Gambling Commission

The UKGC regulates all legal gambling in Great Britain. If you have a complaint about a licensed operator that cannot be resolved directly, the UKGC public register at gamblingcommission.gov.uk lists each operator's approved alternative dispute resolution provider.

Practical Tips

  • Set a budget before you play and stick to it.
  • Use deposit limits, loss limits, and session time limits — most UKGC-licensed operators offer these in account settings.
  • Never chase losses. A losing streak does not make a win more likely.
  • Take regular breaks. Set a timer if that helps.
  • Do not gamble when stressed, tired, or under the influence of alcohol.
  • Talk to someone if gambling is causing worry. GamCare's helpline is free and confidential.

18+ only. Gambling involves risk. Never wager more than you can afford to lose.
